Granada vs Valencia CF Match Preview

Granada vs Valencia CF Match Preveiw
Stadium: Los Cármenes, Granada
Date: 07.12.2014, 21:00 CET
14th matchday, La Liga
Coaches: John Purdy and Nuno Santso

Valencia CF managed go achieve a lucky 2-1 win over Rayo Vallecano in the Copa Del Rey and this week they are meeting Granada in the Spanish League. Granada are currently 16th position on the table with only 11 points, just 1 point from the other 4 relegation teams who have 10 points.

The table is actually quite compact, the only team that is really breaking away from the clump is Real Madrid who've been in top form for the past several weeks and are winning games with ease, hopefully though their good form gets to an end by the time they get to play Valencia CF.

Anyways this is going to be a very important match for Valencia CF as they've only gotten 1 point in their last 3 league games, losing 2 matches and drawing one. Nuno will be looking to have the team win, as he knows how important these 3 points are, especially now that we are coming close to the end of the first half of the season and its important to finish on a high note.

Valencia CF Squad:
Goalkeepers: Alves, Yoel
Defenders: Barragan, Vezo, Mustafi, Otamendi, Gaya, Orban
Midfielders: Fuego, Gomes, Parejo, Felipe, Gil, Feghouli, Piatti, De Paul
Forwards: Negredo, Paco, Moreno

Technical Details Valencia CF (probable setups):
Formation: 4-3-3
Line-up: Diego; Barragan, Mustafi, Otamendi, Gaya; Fuego, Gomes, Parejo, Feghouli, Negredo, Moreno.
Tactics: Medium defensive line, own half pressure, mixed passing, deep laying defensive midfielder, counter attacks.

Match Result:
Granada 1-2 Valencia CF
I'd go for a Granada win prediction, it seems when I'm conservative or doubtful with my predictions the team wins, so I'll be doubtful once again after a poor performance against Rayo and say Granada will win 2 to 1.

Rayo Vallecano 1-2 Valencia CF Match Report

Well, my prediction that Valencia CF is going to win by two goals came true, but it was anything but a comfortable win. Valencia CF struggled quite a bit to get this win and the goals were rather lucky to an extent, in that Rayo goalkeeper made a huge blunder for the first goal which Paco didn't mind too much of course and easily slotted it in the net. The second goal was again from a silly mistake in the midfield which gave the ball away and De Paul running wide down the right and scoring the second goal.

Overall I'd say quite poor performance from Valencia CF and Nuno will have a tough job to improve upon this performance. Rayo Vallecano were the more dangerous side overall and they controlled the ball in the midfield, with Valencia CF having the occasional counter attacks, but unfortunately these weren't very dangerous and were dealt relatively nicely by the Rayo defense.

Nuno decided to make several changes to the squad, with Yoel starting on goal for the second time this season, after having a miserable debut in which he coincided 3 goals, Cancelo started again on the right back position, the nod was given to Felipe Augusto over Zuculini again in midfield with Carles Gil surprisingly placed in an attacking midfield position which didn't pay off at all. He was cut off completely and barely touched the ball all game long. De Paul started on the right and similar story as Gil, he was invisible for most of the match, until the very late where he actually did went forward two or three times and actually scored the goal.

The goal that Rayo scored come from a mistake by Orban, they had a corner I believe and the ball came towards him, but instead of shooting forward he kind of pushed the ball forward to Alex Moreno who had easy time scoring from just 1 meter away from goal or less.

Technical details:
Rayo Vallecano: Cobeño; Tito, Zé Castro (Amaya, m.46), Morcillo, Nacho; Raúl Baena, Jozabed; Licá (Embarba, m.67), Pozuelo (Jonathan Pereira, m.76), Alex Moreno; Manucho.
Valencia: Yoel, Cancelo, Otamendi, Mustafi, Orban; Filipe Augusto, Javi Fuego, De Paul (Roberto, m.87); Carles Gil (Andrés Gomes, m.77), Alcacer (Negredo, m.81), Piatti.

Goals:
Alex Moreno 1-0, 37 min.
Paco Alcacer 1-1, 71 min.
De Paul 1-2, 86 min.

Player Ratings:
Yoel 6 - Couldn't do anything for the first goal, had one good save, had to collect few balls from corners and free kicks, but overall didn't have too much direct shots to deal with.
Cancelo 5.5 - I'd say decent performance at the back, not too secure, but not weak either. He didn't venture forward at all.
Mustafi 7 - Once again the main defender, he was solid throughout and had good interceptions and tackles.
Otamendi 6.5 - Had one or two mistakes, but also had some good blocks and tackles. I feel like he needs a rest to get back in full form though, he's started every match so far. Give him a rest.
Orban 4.5 - At fault for the first goal, was otherwise good defensively, but didn't offer anything going forward.
Fuego 5 - Gave good defensive cover and kept his passes simple and precise, but contributes way too little in midfield or attack. Against weaker sides he needs to have much bigger contribution. Its not okay to purely defend.
Felipe 5.5 - Ran a lot and tried to get the ball often, but unfortunately usually lost the ball pretty easily and couldn't move the team forward.
Gil 4 - Played in an attacking midfield position and I guess he was supposed to overlap with De Paul, but it was just a fail there and on the right flank.
De Paul 5 - Scored the winning goal, but before that he was nowhere to be seen. He had one touch in the first half, minor improvement in the second.
Piatti 6 - Was more dangerous on the left flank than his buddies on the other, but that doesn't say much. Tried to play few crosses and had some forward runs, but nothing too substantial.
Paco 6 - Scored a goal so basically his job is done, but could have dropped back a bit more and tried to fight for the ball rather than just wait for someone to deliver him the perfect ball.

Rayo Vallecano vs Valencia CF Match Preview

Rayo Vallecano vs Valencia CF Match Preview
Stadium: Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas
Date: 04.12.2014, 22:00 CET
4th matchday, Copa del Rey
Coaches:  Paco Jemez and Nuno Santso

Valencia CF will be facing off against Rayo Vallecano in their first Copa del Rey match. Valencia CF is coming off of a demoralizing last second loss against FC Barcelona and will be looking to respond in the proper fashion after a series of not so great results.

Surprisingly Nicolas Otamendi is on the list of players for this match, even though he has an injury, but I guess it was less severe than initially thought. Rodrigo Moreno, Feghouli, Barragan and Parejo are being given a rest and we are likely to see Zuculini or Felipe start this match. Apart from that it will be interesting if he will give Yoel the starting spot to try and see how he does again or if Nuno will play it safe and have Diego on goal.

Knowing Nuno I'm inclined we are going to see Diego Alves on goal, but we'll see, its going to be interesting to see how he approaches the early match of the Copa del Rey cup.

Apart from that we can expect pretty much the same 4-3-3 formation and same tactics he has been using against most teams, with the obvious fast counter attacks and long balls into the penalty area.

Valencia CF Squad:
Goalkeepers: Alves, Yoel
Defenders: Cancelo, Vezo, Mustafi, Otamendi, Gaya, Orban
Midfielders: Fuego, Gomes, Zuculini, Felipe, Gil, Robert, Piatti, De Paul
Forwards: Negredo, Paco

Technical Details Valencia CF (probable setups):
Formation: 4-3-3
Line-up: Diego; Cancelo, Mustafi, Vezo, Orban; Fuego, Gomes, Felipe, De Paul, Paco, Robert.
Tactics: Low defensive line, own half pressure, long passing, deep laying defensive midfielder, counter attacks.

Match Result:
Rayo Vallecano 0-2 Valencia CF
I expect a comfortable victory by Valencia CF. I also expect to see a more attacking play that has good amount of possession.

Otamendi sidelined for two weeks with injury

Remember that awkward fall by Otamendi against Barcelona? Well even though Otamendi continued the match it turns out he had a serious injury and possibly why his performance was weaker than what we are used to seeing. I mean it was kind of a short period of time, but that injury likely affected his closing performance.

Anyways he is going to be out for up to two weeks, and this will obviously give Ruben Vezo a chance, who I still consider a little bit better than Mustafi, but overall its a big blow for Valencia CF as our best defender overall is now out for two weeks.

Valencia CF 0-1 FC Barcelona Match Report

Great performance by Valencia CF for 93 minutes ruined by a last second goal by Barcelona. Draw would have been a fair result, both teams had few chances on goal, in fact Valencia CF probably had the better and more dangerous chances with Negredo and Feghouli coming very close to scoring, but Barcelona's goalkeeper Bravo kept the ball out and kept Barcelona in the game.
Diego Alves did have two great saves as well in all honesty, but these were the more standard saves, one would expect those saves, while Bravo really did pull some miracles to keep the net clean.

Nuno Santos decided to start with 4-3-3 formation, with Feghouli playing on the right and Moreno on the left side with Negredo leading the front line. As expected Barcelona started the match with control of the ball and were the ones controlling the tempo, while Valencia CF looked to break their attacks and try to get a quick counter attack going.

This was pretty much the first half of the match, with both teams having few chances, on the Barcelona side Neymar had a close shot, Suarez shot at the keeper and on Valencia's side Moreno and Gomes both had very good chances.

The second half Valencia CF came out with more pressure in the midfield and started controlling the ball more in the middle of the pitch, which would pay off as there would be more chances, with Feghouli and Moreno really working hard on the wings and providing some good crosses and dangerous passes. Unfortunately though Negredo wasn't wearing his goal scoring boots, I think it might have even been a mistake to start him this game, I mean he did well enough and his physical presence helped, but he did have few chances that could have been converted to goals. For example there was the shot from Moreno that got reflected by Bravo, but Negredo wasn't positioned properly to get onto the rebound.

Barcelona did have what looked like an onside goal disallowed, but they don't have the right to complain too much as this was a rather close decision that could go both way and in the past they've had blatantly obvious offsides allowed as onsides and the opposite for Valencia CF who've had clear goals being ruled offside.

Anyways just as the match is about to end, disaster strikes. After some mess in the penalty area the ball comes to Messi on the left side, he crosses deep into the center of the box, someone heads the ball, but Alves saves the shot, only for the ball to bounce to Busquets who scored the goal.

Goals:
Sergio Busquets 0-1, 93 min.

Player Ratings:
Diego 8 -  Amazing performance by the goalkeeper, had several good saves and was really unlucky to concede a goal.
Barragan 8 - Was pretty much always on point, good defensively, good offensively, no mistakes made.
Mustafi 7.5 - Good positioning all game long, made some good tackles and was generally solid defensively.
Otamendi 6 - Was exposed several times and had a huge gap where he operated. Some good blocks and tackles, but some poor positioning at times.
Gaya 7 - Marked Alves perfectly, completely shut him down and was very dangerous when going forward, providing dangerous crosses and good passes. Was exposed when going in more centrally though and didn't seem to communicate well with others who gets to cover what space.
Fuego 8 - Shut down Barcelona's midfield pretty hard, it was a collaborative effort with everyone else, but he always had good positioning and closed down spaces.
Gomes 8 - Great performance, really amazing movement when going forward, lost his markers with ease at times and provided some good passes and one dangerous shot.
Parejo 8 - Gave the midfield stability and presence, really held the ball well and was able to slow down the pace and retain possession for Valencia.
Feghouli 7 - Tracked back all the time and worked more as a defender than an attacked, but he did have some dangerous runs. Very threatening when running with pace at Barcelona's defense, should have scored a goal though. Had one clear chance, but his shot was poor and allowed Bravo to make a good save.
Negredo 6 - Had a good performance, really fought to get the ball and had some nice plays, but he did seem rusty at times when there were long balls coming towards him or through balls, he didn't quite knew how to intercept those.
Moreno 7.5 - Has amazing skill, quick thinking and good shooting ability. He was able to dribble past several Barcelona players and create opportunities for himself and others.

Valencia CF vs FC Barcelona Match Preview

Valencia CF vs FC Barcelona Match Preview
Stadium: Mestalla
Date: 30.11.2014, 20:00 CET
13th matchday, La Liga
Coaches: Nuno Santos and Luis Enrique

The Spanish league has mostly been dominated by two clubs in all of its history, Real Madrid and Barcelona. Occasionally Valencia CF has managed to disrupt the big two and is the third best club historically, tomorrow night Valencia CF will be looking to disrupt FC Barcelona who've been exposed on more than one occasion this season that they are vulnerable.

The summer transfer window was significant for both clubs, but even more so for FC Barcelona who looked to rebuild after a poor season (for them) with no trophies. They brought in Luis Enrique who had previously managed the B team of Barcelona and who is a former Barcelona player, considered one of the best in the world in his time. He was brought in reinforcements in all positions so he could be able to challenge for trophies this season. Jeremy Mathieu transferred from Valencia CF to FC Barcelona for 20 million euros, basically Barcelona reaching his buyout clause in order to get him.

They brought in additional defender Vermaelen from Arsenal, lured Ivan Rakitic from Sevilla to their ranks to strengthen their midfield and brought in one the best players from that season to strengthen their attack, of course we are talking about Luis Suarez.

These were the brunt of their reinforcements, they brought a new right back as well and promoted few of the B team players to the first squad. With that Barcelona got to an amazing start to their season with clean sheet in over 7 games in the league, but unfortunately for them they were showing cracks in their armor which were exposed in the Uefa Champions league and of course a loss to direct title rivals Real Madrid stunned the team.

Since then they've recovered and unsurprisingly so it has been on the back of Lionel Messi who's improved his form and has started contributing a lot once again. They are coming into the match vs Valencia CF as the favorites and looking to secure a crucial win against a big rival and to continue to challenge Real Madrid for the title.

Valencia CF had a similar summer with lots of new arrivals and lots of departures from the team. The club brought in a new manager as well to try and develop a new team that is going to be able to challenge for titles in few years time.

Valencia CF also got to an amazing start to the season with both the defense and offense surprising with superb plays, rarely conceding goals and scoring 3 goals a piece almost every games. The last two games haven't been particularly good though, against Bilbao it was a draw and kind of good, but the last match against Levante the city rival Valencia CF surprisingly lost the match.

Now the team is going to be looking to bounce back and secure a victory over FC Barcelona and cement themselves as a real and serious title challenger. The team has the potential to surprise FC Barcelona with the counter attacks being particularly effective and through which Valencia CF can score goals.

Valencia CF Squad:
Goalkeepers: Alves, Yoel
Defenders: Barragan, Cancelo, Vezo, Mustafi, Otamendi, Gaya, Orban
Midfielders: Fuego, Parejo, Gomes, Cancelo, Felipe, Feghouli, Gil, Piatti, De Paul
Forwards: Negredo, Paco, Moreno

Technical Details Valencia CF (probable setups):
Formation: 4-3-3
Line-up: Diego; Barragan, Mustafi, Otamendi, Orban; Fuego, Gomes, Parejo, Gaya, Negredo, Moreno.
Tactics: Low defensive line, own third pressure, long passing, offside trap, deep laying defensive midfielder, counter attacks.

Levante UD vs Valencia CF Match Preview

Levante UD vs Valencia CF Match Preview
Stadium: Ciutat de València
Date: 23.11.2014; 17:00 CET
12th matchday, La Liga
Coaches: Lucas Alcaraz and Nuno Santos

International matches are over and its time for club football once again. Valencia CF had several members of its team play for their national teams. Paco Alcacer played 90 minutes for Spain, though unfortunately did not score a goal. He has been without scoring a goal for 4 matches now and worse yet he got injured while on international duty and will be out of the starting 11, possibly even out of the team that meets Levante.

Gomes featured for Portugal, though he didn't have a standout performance, Diego Alves continues to feature for Brazil and he has been impressing with his goalkeeping, Otamendi also featured for Argentina in what was a decent performance. Feghouli played for Algeria and managed to score a goal for his side, while Mustafi was key for Germany in their two matches.

Last match was against Bilbao and Valencia CF split the spoils, but the team will be looking for a win against Levante and to try and stay on top of the table. Daniel Parejo has recovered from injury and could be included in the squad, but its likely that Nuno won't risk him starting against Levante. With Paco out with an injury this gives a chance to Negredo and its a good opportunity for him to show what he is capable of and fight for a place in the starting eleven.

The coach is likely to start again with the 4-4-2 formation that has been applied in the last 2 matches, with Piatti and Feghouli on the flanks, Moreno and Negredo in attack and Gomes and Fuego as the central duo. The defense is going to be the same, bar any injuries its given that the defense won't be changing anytime soon.

Valencia CF squad:
Goalkeepers: Alves, Yoel.
Defenders: Barragán, João Cancelo, Otamendi, Mustafi, Gayà.
Midfielders: Javi Fuego, Zuculini, Parejo, Gomes, Feghouli, De Paul, Pablo Piatti, Carles Gil.
Forwards: Rodrigo Moreno and Alvaro Negredo.

Technical Details Valencia CF (probable setups):
Formation: 4-4-2
Line-up: Diego; Barragan, Mustafi, Otamendi, Gaya; Fuego, Gomes, Feghouli, Piatti, Negredo, Moreno.
Tactics: Low defensive line, own half pressure, short passing, offside trap, deep laying defensive midfielder.

Match Predictions:
Levante UD 0-2 Valencia CF
I'm expecting Valencia CF to win this match. I've been very conservative with my predictions, usually even if I predict a win its only 1 goal difference, but I feel like this is a game where the team can win by 2 goals advantage. Negredo is a very quality player and even though he hasn't had too much play time, I feel like he can get in the groove within 10-15 minutes and can show what he is capable of. I'm betting on him scoring at least one goal and possibly Piatti scoring a second goal.

Valencia CF vs Atletic Bilbao Match Preview

Valencia CF vs Atletico Bilbao Match Preview
Stadium: Mestalla
Date: 09.11.2014; 19:00 CET
11th matchday, La Liga
Coaches: Nuno Santos and Ernesto Valverde

Valencia CF will play against Atletico Bilbao later today in what is going to be a very important match for both teams, with Valencia CF looking to continue its winning form and jump to 2nd positions once again, while Atletico Bilbao will be looking to get their campaign back in order, having had a bad start to the season.

Valencia CF is still without Daniel Parejo and Lucan Orban, both of whom suffer from hamstring injuries, with Parejo have a bit more serious injury and is going to miss the match next week as well. Other than these two the whole team is fit and ready and the coach has quite a bit of options as to how he will approach the match. He could go against with the 4-4-2 formation from the last match, with Feghouli and Piatti featuring on the wings and Gomes and Fuego in central midfield, or he could opt out for 3 man midfield in a 4-3-3 if he wishes to have more control over the match, since last match Valencia CF lost the midfield battle handily and Atletico Bilbao play even more possession based football than Villarreal.

Of course Atletico Bilbao is coached by former Valencia CF coach Ernesto Valverde who coached the team for only 6 months, before joining Atletico Bilbao for more stability. Since then Valencia CF has found stability with the acquisition of the club by Asian billionaire Peter Lim and is looking to create a competitive team that can challenge for titles in the future.

What we can expect from this match is battle in the midfield, as I've written above Atletico Bilbao play a possession based football for most of the time, while Valencia CF this season under Nuno play more of a counter attacking football. Valencia CF will need to try and fight for midfield control because Atletico Bilbao are very dangerous when they have the ball at their feet, Valencia can't afford to have measly 40% possession like in the last match and expect a win, the team will have to have some control of the match in order to prevent constant attacking by Bilbao and give the defense some breathing room.

On the other hand Bilbao will need to improve their counters and build-up play if they are to counter Valencia CF, unfortunately for them Aritz Aduriz another former Valencia CF player is injured and likely won't play for them, which means their biggest threat is gone and would need to change their system accordingly.

Valencia CF squad:
Goalkeepers: Alves, Yoel.
Defenders: Barragán, João Cancelo, Vezo, Otamendi, Mustafi, Gayà.
Midfielders: Javi Fuego, Felipe Augusto, Feghouli, Robert, De Paul, Pablo Piatti, Carles Gil.
Forwards: Paco Alcácer, Rodrigo Moreno, Alvaro Negredo.

Technical Details Valencia CF (probable setups):
Formation: 4-4-2
Line-up: Diego; Barragan, Mustafi, Otamendi, Gaya; Fuego, Gomes, Feghouli, Piatti, Paco, Moreno.
Tactics: Low defensive line, own half pressure, short passing, offside trap, deep laying defensive midfielder.

Match Predictions:
Valencia CF 1-1 Atletico Bilbao
Both teams are rater evenly matched even though they play different style of football. Valencia is the counter attacking team this season and Bilbao are historically and currently a possession based team. This is going to be a tough match and I don't expect many goals, with both teams evenly matched I'm thinking a 1-1 draw, although Valencia CF might have a slight edge due to the home terrain.

Jose Gaya the target of several big clubs

Valencia CF left back Jose Gaya is the target of several big clubs, the player is just 19 years of age, but he's been playing phenomenally for Valencia CF this season and is one of the best players in the club already, gaining the attention of several big clubs who are monitoring his situation.

Real Madrid is one of the interested clubs, they are looking for a long term replacement for Marcelo and see Gaya as the perfect long term replacement. Fabio Coentrao hasn't worked out for them since his arrival and has always took a back seat to Marcelo, almost leaving this summer transfer window, but ultimately staying. Now they are looking to offload him in the winter and bring in a long term replacement for Marcelo, a left back in his attacking mold.

Arsenal are also monitoring Gaya and could try to acquire him as they've been having a lot of defensive issues, Arsene Wenger is also a fan of young talented players, always looking for the next big talent and Arsenal sure have the big money to lure him in, with the Premier League players being the most paid in the world and their transfer fees are one of the highest as well, so shelling out 20 million or more won't be a problem for them.

Manchester City are also potentially interested with Pellegrini also a known coach for finding and developing young talents and he knows the Spanish players as the back of his hand. Manchester City also have agreement for 25 million euros and more for the transfer fee of Alvaro Negredo and they would be willing to significantly lower the fee if Gaya was to move the other way.

There are several clubs also interested in Paco Alcacer, among them Chelsea, Arsenal and few more.

The club is currently working on contract extensions for both players, but its unclear how long until we see their contracts extended.

Villarreal 1-3 Valencia CF Match Report

Well there you have it ladies and gentleman, Valencia CF managed to win against a very tough opponent in Villarreal tonight and it was a hard fought victory. At times Villarreal looked like they would score at any moment, but Valencia's defense stood tall and weathered through Villarreal's attacks, while through counter attacks Valencia CF managed to score 2 goals, with one early own goal by Villarreal giving Valencia CF the lead in the first half.

I got to say that Villarreal were the more dangerous opponent in the first half by far, although apart from their consolation goal in the second half they weren't as dangerous and Valencia's better concentration and focus allowed them to score two goals from just about that many chances.

Coach Nuno decided to start with a 2 man central midfield, in a 4-4-2 formation, with Fuego and Gomes forming the midfield duo and Feghouli and Piatti on the wings, with Paco and Moreno are the two strikers. This was a bit of a detour from some of the training sessions before the match. This formation and midfield duo would pretty much ensure that Villarreal had better possession. Even though both sides battled for several minutes for control of the match, Villarreal was able to win out and pretty much go on a constant attack against Valencia CF.

The lucky break for Valencia CF was in the 6th minute when Trigueros managed to score an own goal, the second own goal in the 6th minute Valencia CF has managed to force, with Miranda scoring an own goal in the Atletico Madrid match in the 6th minute.

The second half Villarreal came out in full force and they looked determined to find an equalizer, but Valencia's defense was solid and stood its ground. Even though Villarreal were the ones constantly attacking, they didn't actually have any clear cut chances. There was one mess in the Valencia CF penalty box and two shots that Diego luckily saved and of course they did score a goal in the closing stages of the match, but apart from those 2-3 good chances, all that attacking play didn't pay off at all.

Valencia CF on the other hand ventured forward sparsely and when they did Villarreal won the ball pretty quickly, but on two occasions Valencia CF managed to score. The first goal was created by Piatti, he played on the right wing with Feghouli, it was a short one two, Piatti crossed the ball in the penalty area and Mustafi found the space and headed the ball into the net to make it 2-0.

Several minutes later Feghouli was jumping in the penalty area and managed to heal the ball into the center of the penalty area where Mustafi happened to stand and his shot ended up in the net, making it 3-0 for Valencia CF.

The match tempo slowed down at this point, though Villarreal did manage to score a goal in the 88th minute as Valencia's concentration began to fall as the game was pretty much won by that point, though its something for coach Nuno to work with the players and ensure maximum concentration even when winning by 3 goals until the final whistle is blown.

Technical Details:
Villarreal: Asenjo, Mario, Gabriel, Dorado, Jaume Costa, Moi Gómez (Jonathan dos Santos, m.61), Trigueros, Bruno, Cheryshev, Giovani (Vietto, m.65) Uche (Gerard Moreno, m.70).
Valencia CF:  Diego Alves, Barragán, Otamendi, Mustafi, Gayá, Javi Fuego, Feghouli (Carles Gil, m.77), André Gomes, Rodrigo (De Paul, m.86), Piatti, Alcácer (Negredo, m.78).

Goals:
Manuel Trigueros (o.g) 0-1, 6 min.
Shkodran Mustafi 0-2, 64 min.
Shkodran Mustafi 0-3, 73 min.
Manuel Trigueros 1-3, 88 min.

Player Ratings:
Digeo 6.5 - Was alert at all times and did well to block a powerful shot in the second half to keep Valencia CF in the lead.
Barragan 6.5 - Did well defensively, blocking few crosses and always marking the opposition.
Mustafi 8 - He did well defensively, but it was his offensive contribution in this match that sets him apart. Scored two goals that even top strikers could be jealous of.
Otamendi 6 - Not as secure in the previous matches, he had one blunder in the second half and then was out of position for the Villarreal goal, marking the wrong person.
Gaya 6.5 - Coped well defensively, anticipated and intercepted a lot of passes and was generally secure enough against the numerous Villarreal attacks.
Feghouli 6.5 - Was rather invisible for most of the match, but played an important role in the buildup of both of the goals and got himself a rather lucky assist, but assist non the less.
Fuego 7 - Played an important part in the defense and had few crucial blocks and interceptions.
Gomes 6.5 - Couldn't control the midfield and together with Fuego lost the midfield battle, but was still very dangerous on the counter attacks and his passing was crisp and precise.
Piatti 7 - Wasn't really effective from the left wing, but went to the right wing and after a quick one two with Feghouli managed to cross the ball to Mustafi who headed the ball into the net.
Moreno 6.5 - Very threatning when he had the ball at his feet and always caused Villarreal problems, even though Valencia CF barely had the ball.
Paco 5.5 - Wasn't very effective and missed two great passes as he wasn't fast enough in both cases and missed good opportunities for goal. Could have easily had two, or at least one goal if he reacted faster.

Villarreal vs Valencia CF Match Preview

Villarreal vs Valencia CF Match Preview
Stadium: El Madrigal
Date: 02.11.2014; 17:00 CET
10th matchday, La Liga
Coaches: Marcelino García Toral and Nuno Santos

Valencia CF hit a bump in the road two weeks ago when the team lost 3-0 to a well organized Deportivo side, but the team bounced back against Elche last week winning the match 3-1. Since then Peter Lim has officially taken over as Valencia CF owner and the atmosphere in the team is superb.

All is not great though as Valencia's goals all came from set pieces last match, meaning the team hasn't scored a single goal from open play for 180 minutes. Paco Alcacer has also not scored in the last 3 matches and Daniel Parejo got injured earlier in the week and will out for 2 to 3 weeks.

Villarreal are one of the rivals this season for champions league position and they've had a good start to the season, accumulating 14 points from 9 matches and are going to be much stronger opponent than Elche. Playing at Villarreal is Valencia's Victor Ruiz, though he is a doubt for the match with minor injury.

Valencia CF has drawn against Sevilla and won against Atletico Madrid, with the team yet to play against Barcelona or Real Madrid. So this is going to be the third real test of the season as to how strong this squad is and for the first time the team is playing without Parejo, who's featured in all matches so far. So it will be interesting to see how the team performs without him.

Good news is that Negredo is slowly but surely coming to full fitness and while I don't expect him to start against Villarreal, I expect him to get some minutes regardless if the team is winning or losing.

Nuno practiced with Felipe Augusto taking Parejo's place in training and I expect to see him start tomorrow against Villarreal. Apart from that I suspect its going to be the same lineup as always.

Valencia CF squad:
Goalkeepers: Alves, Yoel.
Defenders: Barragán, João Cancelo, Vezo, Otamendi, Mustafi, Gayà.
Midfielders: Javi Fuego, Felipe Augusto, Feghouli, Robert, De Paul, Pablo Piatti, Carles Gil.
Forwards: Paco Alcácer, Rodrigo Moreno, Alvaro Negredo.

Technical Details Valencia CF (probable setups):
Formation: 4-3-3
Line-up: Diego; Barragan, Mustafi, Otamendi, Gaya; Fuego, Felipe, Gomes; Piatti, Paco, Moreno.
Tactics: Low defensive line, own half pressure, midfield triangle, short passing, offside trap, deep laying defensive midfielder.

Match Predictions:
Villarreal 1-1 Valencia CF
I expect a close match tomorrow afternoon. Both sides have been playing some good football with Villarreal being really sturdy and tough in the midfield. I think we are going to see mostly back and forth match with both teams battling for control in the midfield. It will be interesting to see how Mustafi copes with better opposition though and if he is good enough to start or not.

Even though the match is likely to be close and very competitive, I expect both sides to score and the final score to be 1-1.

Valencia CF interested in Arturo Vidal

Now that Peter Lim is officially the new owner of Valencia CF, the club is looking to bring in two new midfielders in the winter transfer window.

Bruno Zucculini is not pleased with what little playing time he's received and his parent club Manchester City would like to see him get more minutes as well, so its likely that he'll be ending his loan deal with Valencia CF in the winter transfer window, leaving Valencia CF with just 4 midfielders left, 3 of which are constantly playing in the team.

Now that Parejo is injured for 2 to 3 weeks, its made things clear at just how thin the midfield is and Peter Lim wants reinforcements so that the team can double down on the good performances and secure a Champions league spot.

The positions being looked at are another playmaking type midfielder in the mold of Parejo and another defensive midfielder to compete with Javi Fuego.

On Valencia's radar is Enzo Perez, a player Peter Lim has been chasing since the summer and Arturo Vidal from Juventus. Reports in Italy suggest that Vidal relationship with the new coach are very poor and he is looking to leave in the winter with Valencia CF being in pole position to acquire his services as Peter Lim is ready to spend at least another 50 million euros in the winter transfer market for reinforcements and its said that Juventus would be willing to depart from Vidal for a sum of 25-30 million euros.

Forum and blog news

Today I'm pleased to announce a forum to go along with this blog. If you guys/gals can go check it out and tell me your impressions there. www.valenciacf.cf/forum

Its supposed to be open to guests, but I haven't tested it out, so I need feedback on it. Also the forum might not properly display for some time, its still propagating the nameservers to a new host, so just try later if you can't reach the blog or if its giving you error message.

Also I'm looking for someone interested to manage my clubvalenciacf facebook page, I'm too strangled with updating the blog and just keeping up with the statistics is a big task, so I'll need one or maybe even two facebook page managers. Also check out the statistics page if you haven't, it has all the major stats there, updated quite regularly and all matches are updated in now. www.clubvalenciacf.blogspot.com/p/statistics.html

Right now I'm using a free host for the blog, of course if it actually gets off and has good traffic and I have problems of downtime with the free host or other issue, I will get paid hosting.

Valencia CF to offer Nuno contract extension

Valencia CF is set to offer the coach Nuno Espírito Santo a contract extension that would keep him for more than one year at Valencia CF.

Now that Peter Lim is the official owner of Valencia CF, he is pleased with the work the coach has done and would like to see him stay for more than one year at Valencia CF.

Nuno Espírito Santo current contract expires at the end of this season, he only signed 1 year contract in case things went bad, so that they club didn't have to pay huge penalties for breaking his contract, but since things have been going very well and the club and new owner are pleased with his performance they are going to forge a new 2 year contract extension.

Nuno is also excited to extend his contract with Valencia CF, so the contract negotiations are going to go smooth and fast. Its likely that the contract will mostly stay the same, possibly with small improvement of the salary with addition of bigger bonuses for reached objectives like Champions league qualification and reaching the finals of the Spanish cup.

Official: Peter Lim the new owner of Valencia CF

Its official ladies and gentleman, Peter Lim is the new owner of Valencia CF. This means Peter Lim now owns 70% of the shares in Valencia CF, the majority stock that the 'Valencia foundation' used to own.

The agreement for the refinancing of the debt was reached earlier in the previous day on the 24th on central eastern European time with Bankia and this meant that Meriton can officially purchase those shares and become the owner of Valencia CF.

We don't know the details of the debt refinancing, its supposed to be around 230 million euros that Meriton will have to pay off in the next 2 years I think, but at this point we just don't really know. Hopefully it becomes more clear as more information is shared.

What this means for Valencia CF is that new loan players like Moreno and Gomes and others will become ownership of Valencia CF and Peter Lim can now also move in the winter transfer market and bring in more reinforcements.

Peter Lim has already invested over 60 million euros in reinforcements for Valencia CF, Negredo costs about 25 million euros, Gomes and Moreno together cost around 30 million euros.

Deportivo 3-0 Valencia CF Match Report

What a miserable performance from the team as a whole and a miserable match for Valencia CF. The team got a taste of its own medicine with 3 goals scored, but for the opposing team. Valencia CF were notorious for scoring three goals from few chances and today that got reversed on them as Deportivo pretty much scored three goals from like 5-6 chances at most.

The defense was in shambles from the first moment on, it was one of those matches where it felt uneasy from start when Deportivo were attacking and it looked like Valencia CF could break any moment. Unfortunately that turned out to be true, the first goal you can say Deportivo were kind of lucky, but the goalkeeper did not do enough, he kind of sat there on the line without coming forward to claim or punch the ball away, Mustafi was too out of position there and all could have been avoided though if the team didn't lose possession so easily as well. There were less than 2-3 passes and the team would lose possession, that is too weak, that is low level tier club possession levels.

The second goal for Deportivo came from a similar situation, Valencia CF kind of losing possession, the team is not fully positioned, Mustafi is out-jumped and the ball is headed forward to a Deportivo player, Barragan is slow to close the gap, Yoel is badly positioned and bam they score a second goal. Completely avoidable goal, but it seemed as nothing is going Valencia's way.

Nuno did two changes at half time with Feghouli and Gil in and some of the weaker performers out and it did help, Valencia CF looked more concise and more dangerous in attack, the team had more possession, but there was no final ball, no concise chance. Moreno had a good enough chance on a pass from Gil, but he shot wide, Paco failed to latch onto two passes, one from Moreno and one from the center in midfield, so that could be counted as two missed opportunities, but nothing really concise.

We even saw Gaya really doing great offensively in the second half, but it just wasn't enough against a defensively solid Deportivo side. The key to this game was not to concede and then compete on who scores one goal, but Valencia CF conceded twice, in the first half, due to terrible defending and the match was pretty much lose right then.

Towards the end Deportivo made it 3-0 for good measure and put the match to bed. This is a devastating loss for Valencia CF and not just the fact that we lost  a good opportunity to be in second spot on the table with 20 points, but because of the way the team lost. It was a rather poor performance, the usually reliable defense was really poor and the team had no ideas going forward, while the midfield kept losing the ball time and time again.

I just hope Peter Lim takes over as soon as possible and then we will see reinforcements in the midfield, whether its Enzo Perez or someone else, it will be good for competition in the team and will give us more options as well.

Also having Alvaro Negredo fully fit and ready could really help in situations like this where his direct running and experience can really benefit the team.

Technical Details:
Deportivo de La Coruna: Fabricio; Juanfran, Insua, Sidnei, Luisinho; Cuenca (José Rodríguez, m.78), Wilk, Medunjanin, Fariña; Cavaleiro (Toché, m.63) Lucas Pérez (Juan Carlos, m.57).
Valencia CF: Yoel; Barragán, Mustafi, Otamendi, Gayá; Javi Fuego (De Paul, m.76); Rodrigo, Augusto (Feghouli, m.46), Parejo, Piatti (Carles Gil, m.46); Alcácer.

Player Ratings:
Yoel 3 - Terrible debut for the highly rated goalkeeper. Didn't move out of his line on the cross for the first goal and was badly positioned for the second goal. Will be very disappointed with his performance once he watches in back.
Barragan 4 - Beaten a lot of times from his side and was always one step slower it seems. Was lucky enough that his mistakes didn't result in goals.
Mustafi 2- Terrible performance from the German international. Had so many mistakes I can't even count it. I've said time and time again how I prefer Vezo and I think this match proves why. Partially at fault for both goals and had more mistakes as well.
Otamendi 7 - Had a solid match and had to work twice as hard to cover for the mistakes his partner Mustafi did. Did well though and had several blocks and interceptions. Can't do it all by himself though.
Gaya 7 - Had a decent defensive showing, beaten once or twice by Juanfran, but overall did good and was released offensively in the second half when Gil came in and provided several good crosses and passes.
Fuego 6 - Had several important blocks in the mid to stop Deportivo advancing and was solid with his marking. Did everything right, but that wasn't enough to prevent his team conceding three goals.
Parejo 5 - Really poor performance, too wasteful in possession, his movement was very casual and he didn't have much options, but should have taken the huge load on his shoulders and helped the team, he just failed. As a captain and a regular starter he needs to do a lot more.
Felipe 4 - Terrible performance from the midfielder, committed so many terrible fouls and any one of those could have been yellow cards. If it was another referee he would have definitely been red carded.
Moreno 6 - Was the only forward to even get the ball more than once in the first half and was the most dangerous man throughout the match.
Paco 5 - One of his weakest matches for Valencia CF, didn't have much service at all, but could have dropped back and try to get the ball and help out the team.
Piatti 4 - Was completely irrelevant and all of his runs just ended up giving the ball away to Deportivo. Really needs to become more consistent and to work better with the midfield and Gaya.
Subs:
Carles Gil 6 - Was a lot better than Piatti, provided a genuine threat down the left flank and provided some good passes and crosses, unfortunate to not have created a goal.
Feghouli 6 - Definitely a positive change on the match, his runs from the left were always dangerous and provided some more sturdiness to the team, but couldn't materialize his good performance with goals or assists.
De Paul N/A - Not enough time

Man of the Match: None
Flop of the Match: Skhodran Mustafi
Best offense: Rodrigo Moreno
Worst offense: Pablo Piatti
Best defense: Nicolas Otamendi
Worst defense: Skhodran Mutafi
Best possession: Carles Gil
Worst possession: Felipe Augusto

Deportivo 2-0 Valencia half-time update

Well Valencia CF is down 2-0 at half time against Deportio. Even my rather conservative match prediction said 1-1 and here we are 2-0 down.

I got to say for me Mustafi is just not good enough, I know a lot of people like him because he played like two games for 15 minutes at the world cup and technically he is a world cup winner, but he is just not good enough.

Partly at fault for the first goal and partly at fault for the second goal as well. First goal he was off in his marking and jumping and the second goal he was off on his jumping as well, allowing the opposite player to head the ball forward. Of course Yoel made a big mistake as well for the second goal as he was badly positioned and his reaction was slow.

Right now Yoel and Mustafi are both at 3 rating for me. Both are mostly to fault for the goal, Barragan has also been quite lacking in defense with 4 rating right now.

Felipe Augusto also hasn't benefited much to the team and feels like Parejo is playing alone going forward. We haven't seen any combination from the forward line and all of the attacks are breaking in that final third. There needs to be better passing and more options there.

The match could still be salvaged, but the team needs to have chances. I think at this point remove Felipe and bring in Feghouli. play 4-4-2. Fuego and Parejo central midfield, Feghouli on the right, Piatti on the left and Moreno and Paco in the center of the attack.

But yeah, I think defensively the team was weak and those goals could have been prevented with better defending and goalkeeping.

Deportivo vs Valencia CF Match Preview

Deportivo vs Valencia CF Match Preview
Stadium: Riazor
Date: 19.10.2014; 17:00 CET
8th matchday, La Liga
Coaches: Víctor Fernández and Nuno Santos

The international break is over and its time for club football again. Valencia CF will be vising Deportivo La Coruna this Sunday and looking to continue its great winning streak.

FC Barcelona and Real Madrid won their respective games this weekend, so Valencia CF will definitely need a win to keep its second position on the table. Valencia CF coach Nuno has said the team is looking for a win and anything else would be a big disappointment.

These are the type of matches Valencia CF needs to win in order to compete with the top clubs and to be able to have a chance for Champions League football, something which the club misses so much as it brings a lot of money and viewership which in turn brings the shirt sponsors.

The players who were on international duty all did very good, Paco scored in his matches, Moreno also featured for Spain for the first time and immediately had an assist and Otamendi also featured on one game for Argentina.

The big blow for the match against Deportivo La Coruna is the injury for Gomes, so he would not be available tomorrow, while a lesser issue is Orban's injury as well. Negredo is also going to wait for at least a week for his first start and Nuno has made it clear it will do things slow with him, so expect Negredo to at best get about 10 minutes next week.

Valencia CF squad:
Goalkeepers: Alves, Yoel.
Defenders: Barragán, João Cancelo, Vezo, Otamendi, Mustafi, Gayà.
Midfielders: Javi Fuego, Zuculini, Felipe Augusto, Dani Parejo, Feghouli, Robert, De Paul, Pablo Piatti, Carles Gil.
Forwards: Paco Alcácer, Rodrigo Moreno.

Technical Details Valencia CF (probable setups):
Formation: 4-3-3
Line-up: Diego; Barragan, Vezo, Otamendi, Gaya; Fuego, Felipe, Parejo; Feghouli, Paco, Moreno.
Tactics: Low defensive line, own half pressure, midfield triangle, short passing, offside trap, deep laying defensive midfielder.

Match Predictions:
Deportivo La Coruna 1-1 Valencia CF
This is going to be a tough match for Valencia CF. Few of its players were on international duty so they will be a little bit tired probably, Gomes who's been a big part of the team is also injured and it just so happens to be an away match against the always tricky Deportivo. So I'm looking at a draw here, I think its either going to be 1-1 or 0-0 draw, if its 0-0 for long periods Valencia CF may actually score. Hopefully Valencia CF wins, I'm predicting a draw.

Juan Mata and Enzo Perez on Valencia's wish list

Its still uncertain whether Peter Lim is going to take over the club, positions can shift radically even over one meeting, so everything is still up in the air, though its said that Peter Lim has confidence that the deal would go through and that he would become the new Valencia CF owner soon.

Once Peter Lim becomes the new owner he will invest heavily in the winter transfer window and bring in more reinforcements to cement Valencia's position as one of the top teams in Spain.

On Peter Lim's wish list is former Valencia CF player Juan Mata and long time wish Enzo Perez who Peter Lim wanted to bring in the summer, but ultimately couldn't reach an agreement with Benfica over the transfer fee.

Juan Mata is struggling in Manchester United and their new coach Van Gaal prefers to play Wayne Rooney and new player Radamel Falcao over Juan Mata, who has been relegated to the bench post. The club believes that bringing Mata would give the team more options and increase the competition on the left wing as well in midfield and even attack, as Mata can play as a second striker if needed. He could potentially replace Gomes or Moreno or Piatti in the starting eleven, depending where the coach deems best.

Another player that could join Valencia CF is Enzo Perez who failed to join Valencia CF in the summer as Benfica didn't respect the verbal agreement with Peter Lim and his company and decided to demand higher fee for the player, at which point the transfer broke down.

Peter Lim is ready to come at them with another offer though and try to persuade them this time around. Nuno has the 5 midfielder that he wanted, but he doesn't count seriously on Zuculini as he deems him too weak and since he is only on loan at VCF he doesn't want to play him unless he absolutely must.

Bringing a player like Enzo Perez would increase competition in the midfield and could replace Parejo in the starting position or give Valencia CF more options.

Paco Alcacer shines for Spain

Valencia CF striker Paco Alcacer shone for Spain this weekend, scoring two goals in the two European qualifier matches and has scored a total of 3 goals from 3 matches.

In the first qualifying match for Spain against Slovakia Paco Alcacer entered the game as a sub, with the Spaining team losing and Del Bosque was looking for an equalizer. Paco delivered just that, minutes after coming on he scored a goal to equalize the result against Slovakia, unfortunately Spain would go to lose that match despite Paco's goal.

Having proven so effective for Spain and in top form for club as well, Del Bosque decided to start with two strikers in the match against Luxemburg. Paco instantly had a good chance early in the match, but could only shoot by the side of the goal, though he soon go on to score after an assist by Silva.

It was a real good goal, receiving the pass from Silva, shielding himself from opposition and turning around and releasing a powerful shot that Luxemburg goalkeeper had no chance to save.

Rodrigo Moreno had his debut for Spain against Luxembug and he went on to assist the goal for Juan Bernat, a former Valencia CF player.

So overall great showing for Moreno and Paco, though Andre Gomes had a weaker showing for Portugal, and being replaced on half time, though his replacement wasn't any better either, so Gomes still has chance to become a regular for Portugal.

Feghouli also featured for Algeria in their 2-0 victory over Malawi, scoring a goal, only to be ruled offside.

Otamendi didn't start for Argentina even though he has been in top form for Valencia CF and Argentina went on to lose 2-0 to Brasil, so maybe next match he would start.

Joao Pereira will leave in the winter

Joao Pereira will be leaving Valencia CF in the winter transfer windows. Valencia CF coach Nuno Espirito Santo is not counting on him at all, and Joao Pereira hasn't even featured on the bench, let alone being able to play. As such he has already met with Valencia CF staff and told them he wanted to leave in the winter so that he can play regular first football and be able to fight his way back into the Portuguese national team.

Joao Pereira was put on the transfer list in the summer and he had several offers, but he didn't like any of those offers and decided to stay in Valencia CF in the hopes that he could fight for a position and possibly play. Since that has not been the case and Nuno has no interest in playing him, he will look to leave in the winter.

In fact this may mean that potentially Sevilla could swoop in for him, they have that position covered, but since Joao Pereira wants to leave, Valencia CF want to sell him and his contract ends next summer, he is likely to leave on the cheap and I'm sure former Valencia CF coach Unai Emery would be interested to bring someone like Joao Pereira to his team.

Other options for him could be Benfica who obviously sold Valencia CF Joao Cancelo and could get Joao Pereira their way, otherwise Inter Milan could possibly be interested and even Milan who seems to have many problems at the back and Joao relationship with Rami when they both played at Valencia CF could be very good at Milan.

Valencia CF 3-1 Atletico Madrid Match Report

Valencia CF has done it, 3-1 victory over last years league champion in what was a thrilling and gut wrenching game.

The last 10 minutes of the game felt like 30 minutes, as Atletico Madrid were all out attacking and trying to get something out of the game. Valencia CF defense stood ground though and managed to more or less deal with Atletico's never ending attacks.

The match started with both sides battling mostly in the middle of the park trying to exert control over the match and stamp their authority. This would soon change though as Valencia CF score or should I say have their first goal scored form them, thanks to an error from Miranda scoring an own goal. It was a lucky goal there is no doubt over that, but Valencia CF were exerting a lot of pressure and surely that contributed to Miranda's own goal.

Atletico Madrid were obviously shocked from their own goal and this allowed Valencia CF to double their lead to 2-0 just a minute later thanks to Andre Gomes who dribbled past Atletico Madrid defense and calmly slotted the ball into the net with a wonderful and precise finish.

Few minutes after the last goal Valencia CF would score again, this time thanks to Otamendi from a corner kick by Piatti. With the Atletico Madrid defense worrying about Paco and Moreno, they didn't properly mark Otamendi who rushed in and headed the ball into the net to make it 3-0 for Valencia CF after just 13 minutes.

Atletico Madrid would try to respond, but were kept at bay for good period of time, this would change in the 30th minute though as Mandzukic scores a goal from a rebound ball.

As the game was wielding down toward the end of the first half, the referee decides to take things into his own hands and hand Atletico Madrid a non existent penalty. Supposedly Gaya touched the ball with his hand, but from all the replays he didn't touch the ball at all, let alone his hand.

Thankfully though this injustice won't stand and Diego Alves ends up saving the penalty from Guilherme Siqueira who's shot was really lackluster as if subconsciously he didn't want to score from such a ridiculous non existent penalty.

Anyways the second half came and it was mostly Atletico Madrid, Valencia CF were solid defensively and didn't allow any dangerous chances in the penalty area as opposed to the first half, but were pinched down in their own half and Atletico Madrid did have few dangerous shots towards goal. Nino responded by replacing Piatti with Orban in the hopes of solidifying the defense.

Long story short if I don't want this to be 5000 word article is that Atletico had the initiative for all of the second half and were the ones attacking, they had few dangerous chances, but nothing concrete, nothing that was too dangerous and Valencia CF sometimes scrappy, but stood its ground and Valencia CF were able to close out the match.

There was one very late chance for Atletico Madrid where they actually scored, but it was deemed handball and the goal didn't count, in fact Cerci got a second yellow card for complaining.

So there you have it ladies and gentleman, Valencia CF won over last seasons league champion in a pretty convincing fashion if you look at the score. The play as always wasn't perfect and there is obviously so much room for improvement, but its good to know that even with less than great performance the team is able to win.

The fact that there is so much more room for improvement is positive, which means the team can be so much better.

Technical details:
Valencia CF: Diego; Barragan, Mustafi, Otamendi, Gaya; Fuego, Gomes(Felipe 71 min), Parejo; Moreno, Paco(Feghouli 75 min), Piatti(Orban 63 min)
Atletico Madrid: Moya; Siquera, Godin, Gamez, Miranda; Tiago(Garcia 73 min), Koke; Griezman(Cerci 66 min), Gabi, Arda(Jimenez 69 min), Mandzukic

Goals:
Miranda (o.g) 1-0, 6 min.
Andre Gomes 2-0, 7 min.
Nicolas Otamendi 3-0, 13 min.
Mario Mandzukic 3-1, 29 min.

Player Ratings:
Diego 7 - Saved a penalty to keep Valencia's two goal lead and had two more good saves.
Barragan 7 - Good defending, stifling most of the attacks from his side.
Mustafi 6.5 - Had few interceptions and blocks, but I'm still not sold on his skill, still think Vezo had a better partnership with Otamendi and the defense was more secure.
Otamendi 8 - Rock at the back, had numerous interceptions, solid positioning and dealing with ease with what Atletico Madrid threw at him, topped his solid defensive showing with a goal.
Gaya 7.5 - Always a threat down that left wing, combined well with Piatti time and time again and could have easily had two assists if the players finished off his crosses.
Fuego 7 - Now this is the type of match he needs to shine and he did solidly. Defended with utmost of concentration and always precisely positioned cutting off Atletico's attacks.
Parejo 6.5 - Confident in possession, but had limited options to pass to, especially since Atletico were very aggressive in their pressing. Good defensive showing.
Gomes 7 - Scored a wonderful goal, got past a defender and slotted the ball in the net from a tight angle. Was good on counter attacks and helped out consistently in defense.
Moreno 6 - Was mostly reserved to defensive duties as Atletico Madrid had the attacking initiative for most of the match, but was dangerous when he got the ball at his feet.
Paco 6 - Lovely assist to Gomes as he flicked the ball from behind towards Gomes who went on to score a goal. Was a threat with his movement and positioning even though he didn't have a lot of service.
Piatti 6 - Provided an assist as Otamendi scored from his corner kick, was otherwise dangerous in the early stages in the first half and combined well with Gaya on the flank. Was removed early in the second half to make way for Orban as Nuno looked to defend the result.
Subs:
Orban 6.5 - Slotted in well in the defense and make few good tackles at the back. Headed the ball away from one dangerous Atletico cross.
Felipe 6 - Slotted in nicely for Gomes and defended well. Kept it simple and didn't make any mistakes.
Feghouli 6 - Not enough time, but was lively when he came in and helped keep possession on that right side.

What a bought and paid for penalty for Atletico Madrid

Did you guys see that? I can't believe the audacity and arrogance of these paid referees in their criminal activities. With million of people watching on TV or through the internet, giving such a non existent penalty.

I can't believe that happened. Proof 100% of criminal refereeing right there.

Fortunately Diego Alves did manage to save it and Valencia CF is still leading 3-1. Lets hope we win this game, the team has been doing great so far, lets hope that Paco or Moreno score as well to put this match to bed!

Valencia CF vs Atletico Madrid Match Preview

Valencia CF vs Atletico Madrid Match Preview
Stadium: Mestalla
Date: 04.10.2014; 16:00 CET
7th matchday, La Liga
Coaches: Nuno Santos and Diego Simeone

Valencia CF managed to only get 1 point in the last match, though judging by the performance the team was lucky to get away with a draw and Real Sociedad proved to be worthy opponent and had several chances for victory, though the in form Diego Alves was on point and was able to make several important saves.

Since then the team has had time to rest though and its Atletico Madrid who are coming a little tired into this match due to their Champions League match, so that and the home terrain and Valencia CF should be looking at a win here, its going to be very important to continue with the good start to the season and put some distance between Valencia CF and its rivals, including Atletico Madrid.

Back to the squad to face Atletico Madrid is Pablo Piatti who didn't feature in the last match due to slight injury worry, but now he is fully fit and ready to play again. Surprisingly the coach played Mustafi over Ruben Vezo last match and I though the defense was actually less stable than with Vezo in. So it will be interesting to see who plays this match.

Atletico Madrid have had a somewhat slow start to the season, sure they won the cup, but then had few poor results by their standards in the Spanish league and the Champions league, but they have since bounced back and are floating on top of the table.

They had just dismantled Sevilla the week before and with their newly gained confidence and morale boost they would be looking to be victorious at the Mestalla and take home 3 points from this match. Atletico Madrid have been solid defensively, just as last season, though at times have struggled to score goals. Its clear that they don't have the kind of firepower at goal as with Diego Costa, but they are still finding goals, even if they sometimes struggle for them.

Valencia CF squad:
Goalkeepers: Alves, Yoel.
Defenders: Barragán, João Cancelo, Vezo, Otamendi, Mustafi, Gayà, Orban.
Midfielders: Javi Fuego, Felipe Augusto, André Gomes, Dani Parejo, Feghouli, Carles Gil, De Paul, Pablo Piatti.
Forwards: Paco Alcácer, Rodrigo Moreno.

Technical Details Valencia CF (probable setups):
Formation: 4-3-3
Line-up: Diego; Barragan, Vezo, Otamendi, Gaya; Fuego, Gomes, Parejo; Feghouli, Paco, Moreno.
Tactics: Low defensive line, own half pressure, midfield triangle, short passing, offside trap, deep laying defensive midfielder.

Match Predictions:
Valencia CF 1-1 Atletico Madrid
Valencia CF have the freshness and home ground advantage going into this game, but Atletico Madrid are last years champion and are showing that they area a contender this year as well, so will that be enough? Last match Valencia CF had problems and even though the players were tired from the short breaks between matches it can't be an excuse.

Both clubs have strong defenses, but both are prone to mistakes, we know Atletico can concede a lot of goals if the match gets out of their control, so I expect both teams to score one goal and then be steady at that, ending the match in a draw.

Real Sociedad vs Valencia CF Match Preview

Real Sociedad vs Valencia CF CF Match Preview
Stadium: Anoeta
Date: 28.09.2014; 19:00 CET
6th matchday, La Liga
Coaches: Jagoba Arrasate and Nuno Santos

Its only been 3 days since Valencia's last match and here we are at it again with another match this time against Real Sociedad. Valencia CF has had a great season so far, winning the last 4 matches and scoring 3 goals in all of them. The team will be looking to continue its good streak and beat Real Sociedad who are currently sitting in 14th position on the table with 1 win, 1 draw and 3 losses so far.

Real Soceidad will be looking to take advantage of the home terrain and get at least a point against Valencia CF. They haven't had the best of luck so far, but will be hoping their luck changes and get a positive result our of tonight's match.

Real Sociedad retained their start player, also a former Valencia CF player Sergio Canales after they had a good offer from Aston Villa in the summer of about 10 million euros to purchase the player. This decision hasn't exactly paid off for them as they are currently at 14th position and struggling in their matches.

Valencia CF has had some good news this week with Alvaro Negredo completing his first full training after suffering a major injury that had him out of action for months, so he is recovering very good, Rodrigo De Paul will also be available for selection for the first time since his miserable debut in which he got a red card and several matches suspension for an aggressive elbow to a player.

In fact Pablo Piatti has been left out of the squad and De Paul has replaced him and most likely will get his first proper start, unless of course it is Feghouli who starts and Moreno gets to start as well on the left wing.

Valencia CF squad:
Goalkeepers: Alves, Yoel.
Defenders: Barragán, João Cancelo, Vezo, Otamendi, Mustafi, Gayà, Orban.
Midfielders: Javi Fuego, Zuculini, Felipe Augusto, André Gomes, Dani Parejo, Roberto Ibáñez, Feghouli, Carles Gil.
Forwards: Paco Alcácer, Rodrigo Moreno.

Technical Details Valencia CF (probable setups):
Formation: 4-3-3
Line-up: Diego; Barragan, Vezo, Otamendi, Gaya; Fuego, Gomes, Parejo; Feghouli, Paco, Moreno.
Tactics: Low defensive line, own half pressure, midfield triangle, short passing, offside trap, deep laying defensive midfielder.

Match Predictions:
Real Sociedad 1-2 Valencia CF
We know the team is really good and right now are in full form, but there is no escaping the fact that the team just played a hard match only 3 days ago and will be feeling a little tired. This I think allows Real Sociedad some breathing room which they could use and possibly score a goal, but overall I think Valencia CF is going to win by scoring two goals. Like one early goal by the 15th minute and one more goal in the second half.

Valencia CF 3-0 Cordoba CF Match Report

Fourth straight win, fourth straight game with 3 goals scored and fourth straight game with a solid defensive showing. Valencia CF have only conceded 2 goals from the last 5 matches and scored a total of 13 goals to put the team as the leader in La Liga ahead of Barcelona on goals difference.

I was safe with my prediction that Valencia CF would win by one goal, I was expecting for Cordoba CF to park the bus and they indeed did park the bus, but it didn't matter because Paco Alcacer scored a stunner of a goal very early on in the 22th minute and from then on Cordoba defense shattered, their tactic was no longer viable and they had to open up and this gave Valencia CF more opportunities on goal and Gaya would utilize one such opportunity and score the second goal for Valencia CF.

Cordoba CF were able to stabilize around the 35th minute and were actually pressing and attacking, this would allow them to create a very dangerous chance which Diego Alves just barely kept out of goal with a last ditch pounce with his left foot.

Overall the game was firmly in Valencia CF control and apart from one long range shot and the one dangerous chance Cordoba CF wasn't really threatening. Valencia CF on the other side were and the fast paced counter attacks and runs towards Cordoba's goal were causing all sorts of problems for their defense.

The second half Valencia CF would come out again in dominating fashion and would have complete control over the match, Cordoba CF had their fair share of runs and attacks, but they weren't really threatening and I don't think Diego Alves had to make a single save in the second half.

Valencia CF coach Nuno would make two changes in a quick fashion, taking off Piatti and then Gaya and replacing them with Carles Gil and Lucan Orban. Gaya having his deserved rest after a great performance which put him right back in his best form.

The game would finally be put in bed by Sofiane Feghouli who would score the third goal for Valencia CF on an assist by Carles Gil. That was the culmination of a great performance by Feghouli who seems to be back in top form and would be giving Nuno good problems to have of who to choose between Feghouli and Moreno.

Player Ratings:
Diego 6.5 - Got his fingers on a long ranged shot to make sure it wasn't headed towards goal and then made a solid save with his left foot as a last ditch effort to keep the ball out of the net. Didn't have anything to do beyond those two saves.
Cancelo 6 - The jury is still out on the young right back, he was solid enough defensively and went forward to a great extent, but the final ball and the right decision making was lacking, often losing or giving the ball away as the end result.
Mustafi 6.5 - Solid showing from the German, this was his first start for Valencia CF and did himself proud, made few decent blocks and tackles and seemed to be in understanding of Otamendi.
Otamendi 6.5 - Continued his solid defensive work and it also goes unsaid how he brings the ball forward from defense and spreads it to the flanks or to the midfield.
Gaya 7 - Another great performance from the young left back who keeps delivering week after week, this time scoring a goal to celebrate his great performances so far. Was a constant danger going forward, his passing, crossing and vision are just superb and was taken off early to give him a deserved rest.
Fuego 6 - I think Fuego is going to have the 6 to 5.5 score for most of the matches and I don't think I even have to watch his play to know. He sits deep in midfield and mops up lose balls, tackles opposition attackers, this allows for the other players to be more adventurous, but he himself could be more involved at times.
Parejo 6.5 - Generally good performance, kept the ball well, good and precise passing, still a bit too easy to go down on occasions and still has a tendency to dribble sometimes when he should pass quickly.
Gomes 6.5 - Probably his best game so far, yes it was against a weaker Cordoba side, but that can't take away from his performance. Was really involved in the attacking play, started many of the chances in the team. EDIT: Seems he didn't provide the assist, so I'm changing the score.
Piatti 5.5 - Should have done more, was outshone on the flank by Gaya, was outshone in the penalty area by Paco and Feghouli on the other side has a brilliant and very impactful game, hopefully will come back stronger next game.
Paco 6.5 - Stunner of a goal, that may be goal of the weak in La Liga. Was active and dangerous throughout and perhaps could have done better on one occasion where he beat his defender but shot straight at the goalkeeper, still overall a great performance.
Feghouli 7.5 - What a great game for Feghouli. Provided a brilliant assist for Paco's first, he got rid of his marker and his cross was utterly precise. Was involved heavily in the attacks all game long and culminated with him scoring the third goal for Valencia CF.
Subs:
Carles Gil 6.5 - Replaced Piatti and was more or less a similar threat as him, provided a different approach though and was able to hold the ball better than Piatti due to his stronger and bigger physique. Assisted Feghouli's goal.
Orban 6 - Replaced Gaya early on and continued his solid work defensively, great precise passing and always mindful of his position. Didn't venture too much forward, but did support Gil on the flank and was always available for a pass.
Robert N/A - Not enough time and Valencia CF had stepped into lower gear at that time.
